Social Skills Programs

Years of experience have taught us that the future success of our students depends as much upon their social skills as it does on their academic skill levels.  Social skills groups are small groups led by our counselors and social worker, who teach students how to interact appropriately with others. This is a significant area of need for our students who find it challenging to learn social skills on their own.  The school's Social Skills Programs are based on proven research models and are designed to provide explicit instruction to the students on how to respond in a variety of social situations.  Topics reviewed in social skills groups include but are not limited to friendship, conversation skills, problem-solving skills, emotion regulation, and coping strategies. By learning and practicing these skills in a safe environment, students are able to gain confidence in their abilities.  Social skills practice contributes to students' overall development and helps to set them up to be socially successful in their future endeavors.
