ShYFT prepares young adults for daily living
Young adults with learning disabilities now have access to a new program extension of the ACLD Tillotson school that prepares them for success and independence beyond school.
ShYFT (Shaping Youths’ Futures Today) provides young adults with disabilities, ages 18 – 21, with a real-life environment to gain independence in the areas of employment, activities of daily living, leisure, finance, and relationships. The SHYFT program focuses on gaining independence in the areas of:
- Personal finance

- Overall wellness
- Career development
- Employment skills
In October 2021, a house in a residential neighborhood was purchased to host this day-time program. Renovations to the house began in the spring of 2022, and were completed in the fall of 2022. In it's inaugural program year of 2022-2023, the house now provides participants with a life-skills learning environment.
